Residents are required to be involved in a series of daily, intensive sessions consisting of step meetings and AA groups. At the second stage, clients begin the search for full-time employment. For residents who may not be able to work, house meetings are to be attended as well as engagement in volunteering activities. While clients keep attending group sessions, they are also required, in the third stage, to work with case managers in order to prepare for post-treatment life. Hope House provides day treatment for substance use disorder as well as a recovery home.
Cotting School’s mission is to enable students with special needs to achieve their highest learning potential and level of independence. Our campus in Lexington, Massachusetts, offers specialized education programs for students from ages 3 to 22 years old. The substance use disorder treatment center has come up with innovative ways of caring for their residents during the pandemic. In 2009, having outgrown our South End location, Hope House built a new facility at 8 Farnham Street in Boston. As a result of having expanded space, Hope House is now able to offer enhanced services, including an outpatient treatment center, and we are able to house our administrative services under one roof. Our 35,000 square foot treatment center is located in the Crosstown Section of the New Market neighborhood of Boston, on the Roxbury/South End line. This is a first for many residents as they have never before been responsible tenants in a stable housing situation. 90% of residents are unemployed when they arrive at Hope House and 95% have obtained employment by the time they leave. Hope House is a non-profit residential addiction treatment center for men located in Boston. Licensed by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health, we are the largest and oldest residential treatment center in Massachusetts. We constructed and moved into a new building in the spring of 2009 adding 22 units of affordable housing to the 80-bed treatment center.
Treatment & Therapy
The SOAP Program is offered through Hope House Inc.’s Outpatient Department. SOAP is a four-week intensive treatment program that provides group therapy and individual support. With us they receive integrated substance use disorder services tailored to everyone. We provide health and wellness education, HIV/AIDS treatment and prevention, tobacco cessation, nutrition, and exercise. New patients participate in an initial evaluation and together we develop their personalized treatment plan.

Located in Massachusetts’ largest city, Boston, Hope House Addiction Services is the largest and oldest treatment facility in Massachusetts for individuals dealing with substance abuse and chemical dependency issues. The center was founded by Jack Donahue, informally, in 1956 and was incorporated in 1965. Jack Donahue began the treatment enter when he started taking in up to three recovery alcoholics at a time into his South End of Boston apartment and offering them shelter and support. HOPE House at Cotting School offers a 5-day boarding, educational and transitional program for young adults from ages with physical, communication and/or cognitive challenges to learning. Young adults benefit from intensive programming designed to teach them life, social, and vocational skills in increasingly more independent settings.
